We are data scientists and engineers who believe AI has the power to unlock the latent potential in your organisation and people.
We use data analytics and build bespoke AI models to help organisations understand their environments, predict events and solve their hardest problems.
We tend to work in sectors where the stakes are high and outcomes matter, including housing, utilities, defence and public health. We build models that protect vulnerable tenants, prevent pollution, support national security and detect health hazards.
Our work is explainable and proportionate. We have been trusted with projects in some of the most demanding and sensitive areas of government policy.
OUR APPROACH TO AI DEPLOYMENT
AI is powerful, but it is easy to use badly. Applied without care it burns money, produces answers nobody can explain, and erodes the trust an organisation depends on.
We take a different approach.
Start with the problem. Understand it properly before deciding what, if anything, to build.
Build the right tool. A bespoke model that does the job it’s designed for is cheaper to run and easier to explain.
Show the working. We design models that can be understood by the humans using them.
Ask important questions early. Is this use of data proportionate? What happens if we get it wrong?

THE WAY WE BUILD AI
We write our own models rather than addressing specific problems with large, all-purpose commercial platforms such as large language models.
We mostly build bespoke models for specific challenges or tailor solutions that have worked in similar settings. Through careful feature engineering, we can reduce data demands and cut complexity while building better predictive models that require less compute and lower training costs.
A bespoke model is more efficient, sustainable and explainable.

Andy Massie OBE, Founder / CEO
I spent 30 years leading high-stakes technology adoption—on the ground in Afghanistan, from the cockpit as an RAF Top Gun Instructor to the boardroom as a Chartered Director. My military career taught me a fundamental truth: even the most advanced technology is useless without the right people and processes to harness it effectively. Know-how beats tools hands down every-day.

Dr. Jasmine Grimsley, Co-Founder / Chief Data Officer
I have a PhD in Neuroscience and extensive experience in data science and AI ethics. I've applied my expertise to critical challenges ranging from public health models for COVID-19, operational intelligence in industry, to advanced data systems in national security contexts. Along the way I have learned to focus on trust and ethics in technology solutions — especially if we want to allow technology to enable actions that serve society and to tackle inequality.
why we built Catalytic AI
Our paths converged through a shared frustration. During COVID and periods of military conflict, we both saw how bringing deep expertise straight to complex problems produced fast, innovative answers.
When generative AI arrived, it brought a wave of vendors selling tools and consultants writing reports. Very few people were doing the harder work of building something that fitted below enterprise level or tailoring it to work systematically within the organisation.
We built Catalytic AI to do that work.
We are motivated by more than commercial success. We’re committed to ethics and social impact, and we dedicate a portion of our profits to developing digital skills in underserved communities in the UK and overseas.
